Namu Cho: "Korean Forging Techniques" Workshop

Saturday & Sunday,September 10th & September 11th(10 am - 4 pm)

This workshop will focus on distinctive Korean hot forging techniques. Each student should bring 1oz. of fine silver, which will be alloyed and cast into an ingot. It will then be forged into a bracelet form using distinctive hot forging techniques. Namu will then demonstrate his technique of wrapping the solid form with platinum or fine gold.

Many of you will have questions for this extraordinary talent and Namu will be taking questions and sharing tips throughout the workshop.

Namu Cho is the award-winning designer of jewelry using the ancient techniques of Damascus Steel and Damascene. He makes new, unique, and beautiful designs from gold, silver, platinum, and steel.

Born in Korea, Namu Cho is a contemporary jewelry artist residing in Bethesda, Maryland. He has won several awards from the prestigious American Craft Counsel and from Smithsonian Craft Shows.

All tools will be provided by Namu and Creative Metalworks School of Design for use during the workshop. For students unable to bring fine silver, it can be purchased onsite for approximately $50 per oz. depending on market conditions. If students would like to purchase the unique forging hammers and tongs brought by Namu they can do so before or after the workshop.

This workshop is limited to 10 students and is intended for intermediate and advance students.
